RK Communications – Network Cabling Specialists
Network Solutions:
All of our Networks carry a 25 year manufacturer warranty. Cable Certification is provided on completion of each project with a copy of the manufacturer warranty certificate

RK Communications specialise in the installation, termination and testing of CAT6 and CAT6A copper cabling infrastructures.
Structured cabling network is the umbrella term that describes data and telecoms cabling that is fixed in place to link together network devices throughout a building or campus. Structured cabling falls into 2 basic categories:
Horizontal Cabling
In an installation for example, an office of up to 100 people this probably takes the form of what is known as horizontal cabling, which means that all the cables (CAT6A and CAT6), regardless of whether they are in the same room, or on different floors, lead back to one central location. Cables are terminated to RJ45 jacks at the user end and RJ45 patch panels in the central location, within a suitable enclosure or cabinet.
Vertical Cabling
For larger installations where cable runs might exceed the 90m permitted for copper cables, it is necessary to install vertical cabling, otherwise known as a backbone, which provides, as the name suggests, a central core of data cabling that can be accessed by a greater number of users, and over greater distances, via Ethernet switches. The links that string together these switches can be copper for runs up to 90m, or fibre optic if greater length or bandwidth is required.
CAT6A is a TIA / EIA ratified standard for running 10Gb Ethernet up to 90m, where as CAT6 is a TIA / EIA standard for running 1GB Ethernet up to 90m.
If in doubt about the standard that best meets your particular requirement don’t hesitate to consult us and we will be happy to talk you through the pros and cons and find the option that is right for you.
All of our engineers are highly experienced in data installations – from educational premises, hospitals and industrial sites. This allows them to provide you with exceptional work standards from cable termination to cable management. Each copper system installed is tested and certified and results presented to you for reassurance of the capability of the installation – showing all wire maps and results using the latest calibrated test equipment.
RK Communications specialise in the installation, termination and testing of multimode 50/125 OM2, OM3 and OM4 and single mode 9/125 OS1 and OS2 fibre optic cabling infrastructures.
There are two basic types of fibre optic – Single and Multimode. Single Mode is used when even greater distances are necessary.
We focus on Multimode fibre optic cabling which is more commonly used for vertical (backbone) cabling in single-site business, education and administration environments.
Fibre optic cabling can seem very confusing, not least because a number of different standards of cable and connections have evolved over time.
Multimode can be used to transmit data up to distances of 300m at 1000mbps. Cables can be installed with between 4 and 24 cores to provide multiple links or redundancy (each link requires 2 cores). Patch leads can be supplied on demand.
Every core of every fibre is tested; our minimum test standard is the use of a light meter and power source to verify the installed fibre’s optical losses are within tolerance. More extensive testing is carried out using an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), which provides a trace of the entire length of the fibre being tested.
It’s a known fact: optical network problems are often caused by dirty and / or damaged connectors. With the use of the latest digital fibre inspection probes can ensure that connectors / adapters are clean and exempt of any defects.
Should you encounter an issue with your fibre infrastructure, our engineers have both the skills and the tools to rapidly identify the location of the fault, and to rectify it in the shortest possible time.
